Meet Barbara

Hi!
I'm Barbara, it is so nice to meet you!

I am a 50 something mother and wife, and lover of  anything to do with interior decorating and design...always have ever since I was a little girl. My mother would receive those "Better Homes and Gardens" magazines each month in the mail when I was growing up. She would sit in the afternoons, drink her coffee and  flip through the pages of the magazine. Every now and then, she would call my attention to a picture of a room or some element in it asking me what I thought. Even as a grade schooler I was drawn to design and decor.
I was born and raise in a little town right outside of Philadelphia. I actually grew up in the same town as my father. My background is in the medical field most likely due to my own medical history. At the age of 13 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I was lucky...the chemo given to me at that time saved my life. Then at the age of 25 I was re-diagnosed with multiple tumor growths, but thanks to the chemo I had received as a child the tumors were all benign. This series of events ultimately led me to the medical profession as I am a Registered Nurse and a Registered Radiologic Technologist with sub specialties.

Then at 40 I met the man of my dreams and moved to the great garden state of New Jersey. We went on to adopt two beautiful children and our little family began.

In the years to come my true passions from my childhood for decorating, cooking and entertaining resurfaced in a huge way. And as of recent, I have found running and the discovery of a love for writing. My friends jokingly call me "Martha", but I have been wired in such a way that I am only truly happy with myself when I am creating.

So I started this blog as an outlet, a creative outlet...a way to put together a compilation of all my decorating and crafting ideas along with some thrifty finds and a few of my favorite recipes.  I also thought this would be a great way to document our home for my children, so they will always know what the place they grew up in looked like, smelled like, adventures they had been on and of course my mommy thoughts and feelings. But as I go along I am finding out that I like sharing what I know and people are genuinely enjoying my blog as well as learning from it...and that, simply put, is really cool!!!

Dear Mom,
I want to thank you for always believing in me even when I didn't know enough to believe or had lost all faith in myself. You have inspired me to become the women I am today because of all the wonderful and beautiful memories I have of my own childhood and the home in which I grew up. I always felt safe and loved in that little house on Melody Lane. My hope is that I am able to provide the same loving memories for my own children, so that they can fulfill their dreams and have the beautiful memories of their own childhood to carry with them for all the days they are destined to be on this earth.

Home is only home when it is where you can hang your heart.

Thank you mom for all the love and most cherished memories.

All my love,

Barbara
